Ord Steading, on the south-west peninsula of Skye overlooking Scotland’s most iconic mountain range, is a contemporary custom home shaped by exacting detail and cohesive materiality.

Ord Steading

. .

Angus+Mack delivered the complete internal joinery package – kitchen and island, library and bookcases, fitted study space, staircase and doors. Continuity of material informed every decision, allowing each element to sit within a carefully considered whole.

A refined and clearly articulated brief from Dualchas Architects and client, coupled with a longstanding relationship with the main contractor, enabled a seamless path from concept to delivery. The accuracy of drawings and clarity of communication allowed us to manufacture entirely off-drawing, with all items stored prior to site readiness to ensure a controlled installation phase.

Randomised rift-sawn European oak veneers define the internal cabinetry and wall panelling, establishing a consistent grain structure and quiet rhythm throughout. This is complemented by hand-selected oak veneers for bespoke frontals, including balustrades and drawers.

Solid European oak is carried through in the handles, stair treads and risers, reinforcing a continuous architectural language. Dovetailed solid oak drawer boxes on soft-close ironmongery sit alongside a discrete pocket-door pantry and bespoke terrazzo surface, introducing a subtle contrasting counterpoint. We further advised on and supplied the oak panelling for contractor installation. All joinery was finished in OSMO Raw and OSMO Matt to preserve the natural tonality of the timber.

Ord Steading stands as one of our most enduring works – a project that demonstrates the power of singular vision, material continuity and disciplined execution. It sets the benchmark for how we approach every commission: holistic design thinking, exacting craftsmanship and considered collaboration from start to finish.
